Meet-Up #1 | Kick-off Embassy of Food ’23
On 29 June, the first in real life meet-up will take place, led by the new team consisting of creative leader Barbara Vos and project leader Jelleke Raats. During this kick-off, together with several inspiring designers from the field, we will give an insight on the future of the Embassy of Food ’23. We will do this at the beautiful location Depot Boijmans van Beuningen, made available especially for this meet-up by our partner Rabobank.

Over the next few years, the Embassy of Food is building a network of designers, farmers, policymakers, businesses, nature experts, producers and scientists to jointly seek new perspectives on how we deal with our food. We start this year by focusing on the farm of the future, and exploring together what this future might look like.
Programme
- 15:30 Introduction and welcome by Barbara Vos about the Embassy of Food. What are we going to do? Who will we be working with? And what is the programme for the coming year?
- 15:40 What do we mean when we talk about “the food system”? This will be explored in depth with documentary photographer Kadir van Lohuizen. His research over the past 3 years is about Netherlands as the the world’s second exporting country. What do we produce and where does it go?
- 16:00 Designing for change, what does this actually mean? Together with Femke Coops, Industrial Designer and Design Researcher at Design Impact Transition (DIT), we will discuss what the role of designers could be in designing for change in the food system.
- 16:15 The Farm of the Future is the theme for this year’s Embassy of Food. How do we bring together all the elements of what has been presented today? Designer and visual storyteller Rogier Klomp takes participants through a mapping we will make of the food system. What dilemmas are to be included and what can we actually see ourselves eating in the future?
- 16:45 The expo is part of the large exhibition Space Farming at the Evoluon, curated by Next Nature, which will be on display from the end of September 2023 until (at least) the end of January 2024. The theme is the future of food. The aim is to introduce visitors to different futures where a particular product takes centre stage. This means that in addition to the nine days of DDW, the Embassy of Food expo will remain at the Evoluon for another six months. What else can you expect from this exhibition?
