A fresh perspective on workforce scarcity in the security domain
Growing labour shortages within the security sector are a serious problem. They have adverse consequences for protection against crime and external threats. Organisations often struggle to address these shortages on their own. For instance, they may become fixated on one solution, such as the use of technology or increasing salaries.
We need to shift towards a system-oriented approach and the use of multidisciplinary expertise, so that we can approach the problem and potential solutions from various perspectives. This may even bring about a fundamental change in the world of work within the security domain.
Such a systemic change immediately raises dilemmas. Should we involve more civilians in security tasks? And can employees within the security sector perform their duties with less training? We are happy to engage in discussions to collectively develop new proposals that lead to genuine changes.
