Further development of the public transport bike
In 2022, as many as 5.4 million rides were made on the OV-fiets (public transport bike). Many of the current unstaffed issuing points are in need of an upgrade. NS Stations, a subsidiary of the Dutch railway company NS, is working on two new rental concepts to make it even easier for travellers to rent an OV-bike: the ‘abri’ and the ‘pavilion.’ These innovations are supported by a new digital lock. This technology allows OV-bikes to be rented directly without the need for staff or other equipment.
In addition, NS Stations is responding to the increasing demand for electric bikes. Currently, OV-e bikes are available at four stations. They allow travellers to comfortably continue their journey after arriving at the train station, even if their destination is located a bit further from the station.
