Ch… Ch… Changes

Designers can play an essential role in this. For example, by introducing new ways of working together. By finding room for change within all those systems with imagination and creativity. And by connecting parties and redesigning complex systems together. Design power as a crowbar to achieve systemic change.

The coalition agreement also discusses involving the creative industry in major social tasks. But how does that work in practice? What is the role of design in systemic change tasks? And what does it deliver? We engage with designers to get to the heart of these questions.

With contributions from:

• Floris Alkemade, former Chief Government Architect. As an ambassador of the WDE programme, he argues for new positioning of science and design. Alkemade talks about a fundamental change in our society’s social, economic and technological structures.
• Jetske van Oosten and Tabo Goudswaard. Van Oosten (philosopher and impact designer) and Goudswaard (social designer) advocate a new approach to complex issues. In their role as ambassadors of the WDE programme, they make the transition from theory to design practice. They will also launch their book Maakkracht.
• Christian Bason, director Danish Design Center. Bason gives his views on the role of design in R&D department of public policy.
• Martijn Paulen, Director Dutch Design Foundation.
• Designers Boey Wang, Gabriel Fontana and Jonas Martens and Dorine Baars from design studio Verveeld & Verward.
• And Nadine Ridder, Creative Strategist, is moderating the conference.
