Growing Music: Sounding Bodies

On Ketelhuisplein, in The Growing Pavilion of Company New Heroes, a live concert with the music of J.S. Bach will take place every morning of Dutch Design Week (19 to 27 October). With his sounds as a starting point, a number of musicians create live moments, which are recorded and processed into a soundscape. Every day new ones are added, as food for the soundscape, which continues to grow and change organically during the 9 days of DDW: this is Growing Music!

Musicians who are going to feed the soundscape with Bach’s music are Laurens de Man (organ), Goska Isphording (harpsichord), Eilidh Martin (cello), Diederik van Wassenaer (violin), Vincent van Amsterdam (accordion), Maximiliano Ciaffi (piano) and Jacqueline Hamelink (cello).

In addition, based on the soundscape and the theme (water, nature, environment), new music is improvised by Stevko Busch (jazz pianist) on 24 October. The sound designers who will bring the soundscape to life are Aart Strootman and Richard van Kruysdijk.

The morning concert with the music of J.S. Bach lasts 15 to 20 minutes and is open to everyone. Only the fully grown soundscape can be heard on 27 October. The Growing Pavilion with the soundscape Growing Music continuously can be visited continuously. Check out the programme here.

Growing Music was commissioned by the Province of Noord Brabant (Water, Nature Environment) and developed by Jacqueline Hamelink.
