Food for Care – Annelies Hermsen
“I can imagine that we will apply the Food For Care concept in the supermarket, to provide hyper personalized nutrition as a form of medicine to support everyone’s personal health. Imagine supermarkets selling customized food packages for pregnant women, people with depression, eczema, irritable bowel syndrome or people recovering from surgery…”
Onco Proof Food is a project initiated by Radboudumc for which Annelies was asked to develop a new food concept for oncology patients. Based on in-depth research, she translated the patients’ (negative) eating experiences into a new food concept that is both visually and nutritionally attractive. The concept included the development of a daily range of seven small dishes (in contrast to three large meals), presentation techniques and all-round practical advice to improve the experience as a whole. As a result, the patients stayed in better shape, they needed less nausea medication, and the employees experienced more pleasure in their work. After the Onco Proof Food pilot, the concept was expanded to include all different departments of the hospital and the subsidiary company Food for Care was established.
