Nationaal Museum Wereldculturen | Plastic Crush

The dream that plastic would improve the world turned into a fear of a world overrun with plastic waste. From November 2022, the Tropenmuseum in Amsterdam will be showing the Plastic Crush exhibition about the changing relationship with plastic. The exhibition shows the different ways in which people around the world live together with this now much-maligned material. As a result of the Rethinking Plastic program at Yksi Expo, four young designers – Jie Chen, Daria Biryukova, Lena Winterink and Gundega Strauberga – were invited to be inspired by objects from the museum’s depot. They respond to the old work and provide a contemporary translation with innovative, sustainable and circular ideas. In 2023 Plastic Crush can be seen in the Wereldmuseum in Rotterdam.
