Get to know and work with the Dommel

Encounter Portal_Eindhoven (HALL16)

The project Encounter Portal_Eindhoven is a long term collaboration with the river Dommel, aimed at growing an Encounter Portal in Eindhoven. An Encounter Portal is a bio-based structure created through a regenerative design process. Through simple instructions for participants, the Encounter Portal stages encounters between humans and more-than-humans.

The project Encounter Portal_Eindhoven started on September 24th 2022 with a first “Dommelvaart”. A group of 15 ‘diverse’ artists and designers went on a one day journey down the river Dommel. The aim was to get to know and to work with the river Dommel.

While canoeing through the green heart of Eindhoven, the participants collected natural and human-made materials along the way. At the Van Abbe Museum, an impromptu “Encounter Portal” was created with the collected materials. These fragile structures and the process around it, form the foundation of the further development of the Encounter Portal in Eindhoven.
