LABS: Future Interiors
How can we design interiors as ecosystems?
22 Oct 2020 - 17:30 - 18:30
During this talk Samira Boon and Raoul Frese will present the pilot interior product ‘KOMBUquet’, which emerged from the research project ‘Living Aero Bacterial Systems (LABS): Future Interiors’. It is an ‘anthology’ of possible properties of KOMBUTEX: a living textile, formed by bacteria, that can be used as a 100% biodegradable interior element and as a breeding ground for plants. This ensemble demonstrates the versatility of the novel material and its response to the current health crisis – it redirects the airflow and purifies the air. With this research Studio Samira Boon, the HybridFormsLab by Raoul Frese, Biophysics of Photosynthesis VU Amsterdam and WAAG want to further the transformation of our interiors into healthy and sustainable ecosystems.
External experts, including Ren Yee (UNsense), will explain shared ambitions, followed by a panel discussion moderated by Jeroen Junte.
